The Competence Center Emerging Technologies investigates how innovative technologies evolve, spread and influence each other. We determine which economic, ecological and social impacts the application of new technologies has. We analyze the scientific and economic potentials of technologies and assess their potential uses. Furthermore, we examine the societal and political framework conditions for the development and use of new technologies, as well as possibilities for implementing necessary changes.
We develop decision-making criteria for our customers from science, politics and industry and thus help to shape the innovation processes triggered by new technologies.
Our studies contribute towards designing technology which creates societal, economic and ecological benefits. Experts from economics and political science, engineering, biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, psychology, sociology and communication sciences work together in our interdisciplinary teams. They have extensive experience in innovation research and employ a wide range of methods.
The main focuses of our research are biotechnology, nanotechnology, health technologies, information and communication technologies, as well as new interdisciplinary approaches which result from the interactions of the above.
