Macro-economic impact of High Oil Price in Europe (Ökonomische Wirkungen von hohen Ölpreisen in Europa)

Objective

The HOP! project is aimed at evaluating the direct and indirect impacts of temporary and/or permanent increase in oil price on the whole European economy, with special reference to impacts on the energy sector, the transport sector and European employment.

The HOP! project will deliver quantitative results about the energy sector, the transport sector and the economy that could be used in EU policy-making. For this purpose POLES, a world energy model, and ASTRA a European integrated transport-economy-environment assessment model will be coupled. Together these two models provide the necessary features for strategic scenario and policy analysis on the European level.

In terms of final modelling output, that is the scenarios results, the attempt will be of producing a set of meaningful indicators presented in an evocative way so that main responses of the transport and economic systems can be readily captured and compared.
Fraunhofer-ISI is responsible for preparing and running the ASTRA model in close cooperation with TRT. Further ISI is leading the assessment of direct and indirect impacts of the high oil prices.
